Spirituality should be an essential
part of daily living and how we enjoy the world around us. Spiritual
living allows us to see and enjoy the wonders of nature, to accept
the gifts the world is providing us, and to tap into the stream of
positive opportunities that are always there for us.
Spiritual living allows us to be honest
with ourselves. It allows us to turn those negative "I can't"
thoughts into the positive "I can" to reinforce our journey
toward our goals in life.
An article published by the NationalCenter for Biotechnology Information, U. S. National Library of
Medicine indicates that spiritual living and its effects on health
care is being studied by physicians, psychologists and other health
professionals.
These studies include:
- Mortality - Studies suggest that people who have regular spiritual practices tend to live longer.
- Coping - Patients who are spiritual may utilize their beliefs in coping with illness, pain, and life stresses.
- Recovery - Spiritual commitment tends to enhance recovery from illness and surgery.
I believe the Bible to be the inspired word of God. It is a complete book of instructions on how we should attempt to live a Christ-like life.
I fully realize
that none of us could live a life totally according to the teachings of
the Bible, because if we could, we would be perfect and there was only
one perfect person who ever walked the face of this earth.
This journey of
life is just like any journey or trip we choose to take. Somehow we
always need a roadmap. The Bible gives us that roadmap of life and even
though we might often take the wrong turn, God's word always helps us
get back on course.
I feel just like Dr. Billy Graham, I have also read the last page and I agree that everything turns out OK.
