Should Christians Work On Sunday?

Should Christians work on Sunday?
Certain jobs must be done, even on Sunday.
The Bible makes no particular reference to working or not working on Sunday.  The Old Testament Exodus 20: 8-11: scriptures teach the following, found in
"Remember the sabbath day, to keep it holy.  Six days shalt thou labour, and do all thy work:  But the seventh day is the sabbath of the LORD thy God: in it thou shalt not do any work, thou, nor thy son, nor thy daughter, thy manservant, nor thy maidservant, nor thy cattle, nor thy stranger that is within thy gates:  For in six days the LORD made heaven and earth, the sea, and all that in them is, and rested the seventh day: wherefore the LORD blessed the sabbath day, and hallowed it."
The Sabbath day that the bible speaks about is Saturday, the seventh day of the week.  People of the Jewish faith continue to observe a holy day of rest on the Sabbath, from sunset Friday until nightfall on Saturday.  For some reason, Christians moved their Sabbath to Sundays in recognition of Sunday being the day of Jesus' resurrection.

Jesus taught a very important lesson when he spoke to his disciples in Mark 2: 27-28:
"And he said unto them, The sabbath was made for man, and not man for the sabbath: Therefore the Son of man is Lord also of the sabbath."
Jesus observed the Sabbath and never suggested a change to Sunday. He teaches us that observance of the Sabbath is not a duty that we owe to God, but rather, God made the Sabbath as a day of rest for our sake.

There are thousands and thousands of people who have no choice but to work on Sunday due to the nature of their work or profession.  Can you imagine a surgeon refusing to perform an emergency surgery just because it's Sunday?  A homemaker makes beds and cooks meals even on Sunday. There are thousands and thousands of nurses who must attend to the sick, even on Sunday.  The pastor of your church must work on Sunday.  Law enforcement personnel must work on Sunday.  For the retail industry, Sunday can be one of the busiest days of the week and can make the difference between profit and failure for the business.

Jesus taught us in  Matthew 12:11-12:
"And he said unto them, What man shall there be among you, that shall have one sheep, and if it fall into a pit on the sabbath day, will he not lay hold on it, and lift it out?  How much then is a man better than a sheep? Wherefore it is lawful to do well on the sabbath days."
We should not get all caught up in believing that no Christian can work on Sunday.  The important thing is that we learn to set aside one day each week to rest and enjoy everything God has given us.  The Sabbath was intended to help us grow in our relationship with God and to spend time with our friends and family.  It's about taking just one day of the week to recover and get rejuvenated for the next week's work.

Is it better to work on Sunday or develop an attitude that we will just evade certain responsibilities rather than tend to them on Sunday?
