Should The Bible Be Used As A Textbook In Our Schools?

The Bible is still relevant in the classroom
The Bible can teach children things they need to know.
The question "Is the information in the Bible relevant to today's classroom as a textbook on every subject?" is a very complex question and must be broken down into its separate parts.

First, the answer to the question "Is the information in the Bible relevant to today's classroom?" would be a definite yes. The problem here is in determining just which Bible we are referring to. Just the nature of the question would suggest that we are referring to the Christian Holy Bible, but other faiths have their own version of the Bible and its teachings would be just as relevant to the children of that particular faith.

God's word and the teachings of Jesus are extremely important to any child who must struggle through this world of hatred and greed, where we tolerate just about any kind of behavior or lifestyle.

The next section of the question is "Is the Bible relevant as a textbook on every subject?"
We must understand that the Bible, in any version, is a book of faith and not a book of history, science, poetry or any other particular academic subject.

If our children are going to be allowed to study the theory of evolution, then they should have the right to study the truth of Creation, but that is still religion, not science. Children should know that they are not an advanced species of fish or monkeys. That was even hard to type mush less understand.

If our children are going to be taught sex education and birth control, someone out there surely should be able to teach them abstinence. Why do we tell a 14 or 15-year-old child it's all right to have sex as long as he or she is protected?

If our children are going to be taught that an abortion is an alternative should they make a bad decision, they should be taught about how Jesus loved all children, even before they were born.

If we are going to continue to allow our children to live in homes of violence, someone should teach them that this behavior is not normal and it is not how God wanted men to treat their wives. They should also be taught the violence is not their fault.

The Bible teaches all of us about life and how best to live that life to its maximum potential. All children should be exposed to some religious belief and should be taken, not sent, to church services on a regular basis. There is no other way that any child can make a rational decision as to whether or not they choose to practice any particular belief or not.

There should be a textbook with a title like "Lessons of Life" or something similar designed to teach our children about living a moral and respectful life. We obviously cannot use the Bible as a textbook in our schools, because it wasn't written for that purpose.

It is past the time when we all should realize that our kids are our future and that future will be controlled by our desire to teach them what we want them to know.
